On October 8th, MVU hosted a screening of the documentary, Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age for community members, parents, staff, and students featuring a Q & A after the viewing with Dr. Harris Strokoff, Child, Adolescent, & Adult Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Northwestern Counseling & Support Services. Dr. Strokoff’s career has spanned almost 20 years and he will share as some medical evidence of how the internet, gaming, and social media addiction worsens mental health outcomes in children and teenagers and worsens suicide risks in these populations. Screenagers: Elementary School Edition, will screen at Swanton Elementary on November 12th, and a final program, Screenagers Next Chapter: Mental Health in the Digital Age (see trailer) will wrap up the series at MVU in December. This is a collaborative effort of NCSS, Franklin County Caring Communities, Swanton Library, Swanton Village and Swanton Enhancement Project and the MVSD Schools. The funding for this project originates from Opioid Settlement dollars and the Regional Prevention Partnership Grant.
