Our mission is to develop students’ abilities to learn and to communicate through the power of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Through their English language studies, students become aware that reading and writing are essential and life-long pursuits. They learn to use the writing process to create well-constructed pieces of writing in a variety of situations and for many audiences. Students are encouraged to read for a variety of purposes and to interpret their reading for pleasure, for critical analysis, and for informed decision making. In addition, the department believes that it is important to prepare students for the information age. As a result, emphasis is placed increasingly on developing computer technology skills in accessing information, thinking critically, and making informed decisions and in producing multimedia expressions of their learning
