- Jay Peak Free Ski Pass Reminder for Students – Jay Peak is continuing to recognize student achievement through their Foundations Program. This is called the Class To Pass Program. Part of that recognition includes a FREE Jay Peak season ski pass to 100 eligible students. At MVU, every student is eligible, although there are only 100 passes to give out.
- Write an essay (max 350 words) describing what makes you a dedicated student. Please include your grades and involvement, talk about your effort, your participation, and your growth as a student at MVU. Good attendance will be a consideration.
- This is due by 3:30 pm on November 1, 2024.

Engaged in Learning!
Dear Thunderbird Parents and Families,
The end of October marks the halfway point through the first semester of the year. Most of our initial community building and “back-to-school” activities are in the rear-view mirror and classes are well into a second unit of study. The pace picks up a bit and students should have plenty to say about what they are learning. A few weeks back, students in 7th grade Science tested their hypotheses regarding how many pennies would a clay boat hold before sinking and how high can we build a paper tower before the collapse? Does it matter how we design the boat? Is there a way to make paper sturdier? How does the size of the base predict the outcome? If you have a 7th grader at home, ask what they discovered!
This year our school-wide literacy initiative is focused on vocabulary. Teaching the most common prefixes, root words, and suffixes and highlighting the class specific words they are used in, helps students discover so many more words than they might without this targeted approach. When you are in the building, check out our word walls, and teaching posters. Also, ask your students how many new words, or word parts, they have been exposed to, just since the beginning of the year; it is impressive!
Engaged in Fun, Too!
MVU Middle School hosted a Spirit Week to kick off the fall season. On Monday, the popular Twin Day launched our week. I was introduced to the Potato song (check it out!) on Tuesday’s Potato Day. Wednesday brought out the creativity in Middle Schoolers with Anything But a Backpack Day. We have done this before and I have never seen as many options for carrying around school items as I did on Wednesday. A microwave, a wheelbarrow, and a fishing net are highlights of the ways your students participated in the day. Thursday and the popular Sports Jersey day rounded up the week. Congratulations to Ms. Collins’ homeroom who took the honors of “Most Spirit Week Participation” and the XStream Team who won the trophy for MOST MIDDLE SCHOOL SPIRIT!
Keep an Eye Out:
Parents' conferences are right around the corner on the evenings of November 20 & 21. Look for a link to sign up for these conferences around November 6th!
Questions for us? The best way to reach the Middle School Office is to call Beth Greenia, in the HUB at 802-868-0502, or 802-868-7311 ext. 194.
Take Care,
Christie Martin, MVU Co-Principal
